Chapter 42 Are you and Miss Flora living together?
Chapter 42 Are you and Miss Flora living together?
Lin Er felt that his relationship with Flora wasn't close enough for that, and besides, his previous concerns remained, so he didn't agree.
"It's too crowded for just the two of us. I'll move next door to you for now."
Flora didn't press the matter further, saying, "Then I'll go back and ask around for you. If they have any, I'll rent them for you, how about that?"
Lin Er nodded: "Then I'll leave it to you."
He chatted with Flora while eating, and the topic of the Silver Badge came up.
Flora previously said that she suppressed her strength. Since there is a way to suppress one's rank, I wonder if there is a way to impersonate someone of a higher rank.
Flora shook her head upon hearing this and replied, "I haven't seen a similar spell yet, but it seems there are magical items that can be used for disguise."
Lin Er's eyes lit up, and he continued to inquire about related information. If he could obtain the disguise magic item, he might be able to impersonate a second-tier being; after all, he just needed to get the silver badge.
Flora continued, "These kinds of magical items are usually quite rare; I've never seen one before."
That's a bit of a shame, but it's still one option. If all else fails, we'll have to find the necessary tools.
Flora noticed Lin Er's disappointed expression, and then, as if struck by a sudden thought, she said:
"I remember Blackrock City was divided into three factions: the Guilds, Baron Raven, and the Lord of Blackrock City."
They were all trying to recruit potential adventurers; I had been invited before.
"Lin Er, with your strength, even without revealing your rank, they'll most likely try to win you over. Asking them for help should be a good way to get a Silver Badge."
Lin Er also felt that Flora's suggestion was very feasible.
The Adventurers' Guild says that you can only get the Silver Badge at Tier 2, but Flora got it at Tier 1, which is a perfect example.
However, Lin Er did not know Baron Raven or Lord Blackrock City; given his current reputation and strength, he probably wouldn't even be able to meet them.
Raymond, the head of the Silver Shield family, might be able to help him get an introduction, but that would mean owing him a favor.
Lin Er could sense that the Silver Shield family wasn't very welcoming to him.
So many days have passed, and Luna and the others haven't invited me to go on an adventure, nor have they seen me again. Going there rashly like this is really risky.
He pondered, "I think I should go ask Ellie. She's a member of the guild, after all, and one of my few connections."
Flora also thought it would be better to ask Ellie first, and said:
"If things don't work out with Ellie, I'll think of something else for you."
"OK."
Flora then bid farewell to Lin Er, eager to return and inquire about renting a house for him.
She seemed quite lonely in Blackrock City, much like herself; both of them were strangers from afar.
Lin Er was able to empathize with her.
He watched Flora leave, then calmly began to eat. After finishing his meal, he picked up his sword and headed towards the guild.
……
Today, there weren't many people in the guild's lobby on the first floor; there were only a dozen or so.
Most of the adventurers were chatting and laughing, while half of them sat in the rest area chatting idly.
Unless the guild is closed for a break, Lin Er always sees adventurers accepting quests or forming parties in the lobby whenever he comes here, which shows that there are indeed quite a few adventurers in Blackrock City.
Most adventurers travel in groups, making his solo actions somewhat of an anomaly.
Lin Er arrived at the counter where Ellie was in charge. When she saw him, Ellie immediately smiled, sat up straight, and put down her notebook.
Ellie spoke first, "Lord Lin'er, are you here to accept the bounty?"
He wanted to say no, but then he thought, since he was already here...
Let's see if we can trigger a quest first; at least we won't lose anything if we get a quest.
Lin Er asked Ellie to take out the bounty poster and look at it. He quickly glanced at it but didn't see any hints.
Ellie asked in confusion, "Lord Lin'er, what type of bounty do you want? I can help you find one."
Lin Er put down the bounty poster, waved his hand, and replied, "I actually came to see you today."
Ellie looked somewhat surprised and asked, "Lord Lin'er, you must want to ask me about the guild, right?"
This is something that can be easily understood with a little thought.
Lin Er nodded and asked, "How can I get the Silver Badge ahead of schedule?"
Ellie hesitated for a moment, then tentatively asked, "Do you also want to get it ahead of time like Miss Flora? The guild has rules; you need at least an A-level elemental affinity."
Lin Er was clearly not satisfied with this answer.
"You should know my elemental affinity. Is there any other way?"
Ellie shook her head and said:
"That's the guild rule, and I can't change it. But if you contact Baron Raven and the city lord, they might be able to help you get it ahead of time."
Lin Er frowned upon hearing this, it seemed he would have to ask Raymond, the head of the Silver Shield family, for help again.
He sighed and said, "Thank you, Ellie. I'm all set for now."
After saying that, Lin Er turned around and prepared to leave.
At this moment, Ellie suddenly spoke up: "Lord Lin'er, I actually have another idea."
Lin Er was taken aback, then immediately turned around, his expression somewhat anxious.
"What method?"
Ellie answered seriously, "Go on a date with me."
Lin Er almost thought he was hallucinating.
Although he knew Ellie really wanted to go on a date with him, Lin Er couldn't figure out what the date had to do with the Silver Badge.
Lin Er looked somewhat apologetic and said:
"Miss Ellie, you know I don't want to be in a relationship right now."
Ellie's expression remained unchanged as she calmly asked:
"Lord Lin'er, are you and Miss Flora living together?"
Lin Er paused for a moment, then realized that Ellie must have seen him staying with Flora these past few days.
In this way, the refusal made just now seems like a joke.
He quickly explained:
"You've misunderstood. I've been sick recently, that's why I'm staying in Flora's place."
Ellie looked at him with concern, stood up and leaned closer: "Lord Lin'er, are you alright?"
"Don't worry, I'm fully recovered." Lin Er quickly changed the subject, asking, "What does this date you mentioned have to do with the badge?"
Ellie had no choice but to sit back down and replied, "I am a maid of the Raven family, and I can ask Lord Raven to help you obtain the badge."
It turned out to be the case.
Lin Er was surprised to learn that Ellie had this connection. It seemed that Baron Raven had quite a reach, managing to place even his maids in the guild.
He now had a basic understanding of the three-way power struggle that Flora had just described.
When Lin Er looked at Ellie again, he felt a little guilty. After all, she was just a maid, yet she had to beg her master for her help.
"Won't this cause you a lot of trouble?"
Ellie said calmly, "Lord Lin'er, you don't need to worry about me. I can actually speak up for Lord Raven."
Lin Er thought Ellie was just trying to comfort him, but judging from her calm expression, the matter was likely to succeed.
"Then I'll have to trouble you. I owe you a favor, and if you need any help, I'll definitely do my best to help."
Ellie smiled: "You don't owe me anything. Dating me is already the biggest reward. It's a fair deal."
Lin Er didn't think so; he clearly got the better deal.
Ellie felt the same way, and even felt a little guilty.
Both of them felt they had gotten the better deal.
