Chapter 266: Your Opponent Is Me
Chapter 266: Your Opponent Is Me
"...What can we even do against that?"
"We need to run!"
"We can’t! These stupid goblins are blocking the way!"
The players screamed at each other.
In that moment, a large shadow fell over a group of players, and the massive hand of the Ice Giant descended towards them.
The players closed their eyes.
Ice Giant grabbed one of the players with its large hand and brought him over to its face and sniffed the scared-shitless player.
"HELP!"
The player screamed.
But then, the Ice Giant opened its massive mouth and bit off the player’s head, and blood spewed everywhere.
The players all turned pale, and they shuddered, as that must be one of the most horrible ways to die in this game.
That player who just got his head eaten would most likely going to have trauma that would last his entire life!
"Mwoah..."
Ice Giant let out a satisfied sound, and it then tossed the rest of the player’s corpse into its mouth and swallowed.
It looked very happy.
It then turned its gaze towards the rest of the players and licked its cracked lips, as if it were still hungry.
"NO, IT IS PLANNING TO EAT ALL OF US!"
A young woman screamed in horror, and she tried smashing the log out button, wanting to get out of the game.
But they were inside the Combat Zone, so she couldn’t leave with just a button press.
In that moment, the Ice Giant’s massive hand came for her, and she screamed with all her strength.
"HEAT GAZE!"
Fang Raon fired the flaming beam from his eyes, and it pierced through the Ice Giant’s hand, creating a small burning hole.
"ROAR!"
Ice Giant felt that, and it pulled its hand back while trying to blow at its hand to cool it down as it was still burning.
"Ah... ah..."
The young woman, teary-eyed, turned to Fang Raon and whispered tearfully, "Thank you..."
"Ice Goblins and the Ice Giant are still afraid of fire!"
Fang Raon’s shout echoed into the ears of the players.
At that moment, the village, which was burning, started spreading the fire to nearby areas, and the Ice Goblins backed away slowly from the fire.
Even the Ice Giant seemed to want to avoid the fire.
"M-Maybe we can use fire to escape?"
A player whispered, and surprisingly, the hope that they had lost slowly returned back to their hearts.
The Mages used their Fireball spells, and scared away the Ice Goblins, paving the path for one of the exits!
"The exit is open. We can leave right now!"
The players, smiling, started running for the exit, but then, a large shadow flew past them, and a massive figure landed right in front of the exit.
It was the Ice Giant.
It didn’t seem like it wanted to let the players leave.
Ice Giant opened its massive mouth. Cold air blew out of its mouth. And then, it released an Icy Breath that turned nearby players into ice.
The players’ health dropped to zero, and they dropped dead.
"It’s hopeless..."
"With just one attack, it managed to kill ten of us!"
Players, again, turned hopeless.
"HEAT GAZE!"
At that moment, Fang Raon’s eyes burned brilliantly, and the fire beam burned into the Ice Giant’s forehead.
"ROAR!"
Ice Giant roared in pain, and it then used its hand to block the fire beam, but it burned a hole straight through.
"Huff... huff... huff..."
Fang Raon panted heavily, and then his Heat Gaze ended, and he was sweating furiously with a pounding headache.
His mana tank... was pretty much empty.
’Using Heat Gaze is extremely taxing...’
Ice Giant ignored the rest of the players and turned its attention to Fang Raon, who seemed to be the only threat.
It wanted to eat this annoying little human.
"I’ll distract the Ice Giant. The rest of you, make your escape!"
Fang Raon screamed, and he released another Heat Gaze, and the Ice Giant blocked it with his massive forearm.
"ROAR!"
Ice Giant smashed the flaming beam with its fist, and it hammered its fist down at Raon, but he dodged narrowly.
Fang Raon turned around and started running back to the burning village, but with just a few steps, the Ice Giant caught up to him.
Ice Giant reached its hand towards him and wrapped its hideous-looking fingers around Raon’s body.
He got caught!
"HEAT GAZE!"
At that moment, Fang Raon cut through its long fingers with Heat Gaze, like a knife through butter, and freed himself!
Meanwhile, the players rushed out of the exit, and the Ice Goblins ran after them, but they couldn’t possibly catch the players.
"ROAR!"
Ice Giant angrily roared.
Fang Raon then jumped into the air, turned to the Ice Giant, and opened his grimoire.
With the last remaining mana, he cast close to a dozen Fireball spells and made them hover all around the Ice Giant.
Then.
Fang Raon clenched his hands into fists, and out of nowhere, the Fireball spells exploded all around the Ice Giant.
"ROAR!"
Ice Giant angrily screamed as the explosions genuinely hurt it and made its health drop slightly.
[Ice Giant - HP: 80%]
’I have no more mana. I am done for.’
Fang Raon thought.
Ice Giant used one of its many icy spells to kill off the flames and then turned its evil gaze to him.
"I am going to get eaten... Not the nicest way to go out..."
Fang Raon thought out loud with a sigh.
Then, Ice Giant’s massive hand came for him, and he closed his eyes, resigning to his horrible fate.
"BROTHER!"
Out of nowhere, a sword came that sliced off the Ice Giant’s fingers.
Hearing the shout, Raon’s eyes widened in surprise, and he looked over and saw a beautiful brunette-haired girl.
"YOU DARE TO HURT MY BROTHER? I’LL KILL YOU, BITCH!"
Anna screamed with a furious expression, and she then thrust the sword through the Ice Giant’s eyeball.
"ROAAAAAAR!"
Ice Giant stumbled back, missing one of its eyes and fingers from both hands.
"...You came. I knew you would."
Fang Raon chuckled.
"...No, you didn’t, hmph!"
Anna pouted.
"I knew you wouldn’t let me go here alone to die. You care about me too much."
Fang Raon said.
"...Hmph."
Anna turned her head with a pout, but he was completely right, as she never planned to let him just die.
Therefore.
When she "logged out," she immediately came back to the game and followed behind them as they headed for the Ice Goblin colony.
She was hoping that they wouldn’t need her help, but seeing the hopeless situation and that her brother was about to die, she had to make a move.
"How’s the situation with your mana?"
Anna asked.
She saw that he had been sweating and trembling for a while now, signaling that he was completely empty.
"...I got nothing left."
Fang Raon said with an exhausted expression.
"Take this."
Anna tossed him a couple Mana Recovery Potions, and he quickly gulped them down, and all his mana returned back to him.
"Ahh... That’s better."
Fang Raon let out a sigh of relief.
"Ice Giant is extremely strong, but we can take it down, both of us. I’ll slowly cut off its limbs while you keep it busy!"
Anna said.
"...I need you to keep it busy by yourself for a while."
Suddenly Fang Raon said.
"Huh? Why?!"
Anna asked in a shock.
"The reason why I came here in the first place—Opal’s husband and other guards are held captive here somewhere—I need to rescue them before it is too late."
Fang Raon said.
"...You still care about those damn locals? We have more pressing matters in hand. We need to concentrate on this Ice Giant!"
Anna screamed.
"Please... I need to do that. Can you handle the Ice Giant alone for five minutes?"
Fang Raon pleaded.
Seeing his expression, Anna’s heart softened, but she was still pissed off, and she scoffed angrily.
"Fine, do what you want. If I die because of you, you owe me big time!"
She shouted.
"I trust you."
Fang Raon said, and then he started running off to find the prisoners—he had a clue where they might be at.
Seeing him leave, Ice Giant didn’t take it lightly, and it wanted to go after the annoying human, but then...
"YOUR OPPONENT IS ME!"
Anna sliced at its cheek, shedding a little bit of the blue blood, and the Ice Giant’s anger was immediately directed at her.
"ROAR!"
...
Creak~! boom~!
"...For a while now, there have been sounds of fighting echoing from afar."
A tattered-looking man said as he was sitting in a small cage in a dark room that barely had any light except one blue ice crystal in the wall.
"...Could it be the chief and others?"
A hopeful-sounding guard said.
"No way, there are too many Ice Goblins. It would be a suicide mission. It might just be Ice Goblins fighting with each other."
Another guard said.
Amidst them, a decent-looking man stared silently at the ground with a sad and longing expression.
"Opal.... Hero..."
He whispered, and as he closed his eyes, he was able to see their faces and hear their voices very clearly.
’...Come home... home...’
"I want to..."
He whispered.
Creak~! At that moment, they heard a door opening, and the guards’ hearts dropped to the bottom of their stomachs.
"Is it the Ice Goblins?"
"Does that mean we are about to be eaten?!"
"No..."
Guards backed away, but there wasn’t a lot of room to move inside the small cages.
In that moment, a black-haired young man stepped through the door and stopped in front of the caves.
The icy blue crystal’s light illuminated his face. It wasn’t a face of an Ice Goblin.
"...Who?"
A guard whispered.
