Chapter 8 Exploration and Harvest
Chapter 8 Exploration and Harvest
Bending over and kneeling, House and Captain Karp both crawled into the goblin's lair.
The passage is very long, and its overall shape resembles a horizontally placed funnel.
It was a bit narrow at first, and House kept bumping his head.
But after walking forward for more than ten meters, the passage began to widen, with an overall diameter of about two meters.
House was finally able to stretch his body.
But he didn't inhale forcefully.
The stench seeping into House's nostrils from outside the "mask" was a constant warning that if he dared to breathe too hard, he would be subjected to a violent shock he would never forget.
Not far ahead, the ground became soft and sticky, and the stench that seeped into the nostrils became even stronger.
At this moment, the passageway had been widened to a diameter of three meters, and House noticed through Karp's neck that there seemed to be a relatively spacious room ahead.
It's also the lobby, right?
Just then, Garp stopped in his tracks.
"House, prepare yourself mentally."
House realized something was wrong from the inexplicable words.
A not-so-good thought popped into his mind.
Karp continued forward a few steps until he reached the hall, where he stepped aside to make way for him.
Only then was House able to see the interior of the hall clearly.
At this moment, House, who had remained unfazed by the carnage, felt a wave of nausea.
After a few seconds, House, still feeling unwell, instinctively grabbed the slime he had been hiding in his chest, pressed it to his face, and took a deep breath.
It still has that faint, pleasant fragrance.
The slime did not become foul-smelling after being stained with goblin blood; the bloodstains on its skin had already been repelled, just as it had been shaken off dust and dirt earlier.
Coming to his senses, House instinctively looked at Karp.
He didn't tell Karp that he had been carrying Miss Slime with him all along.
However, Karp didn't seem to care about that at the moment. He didn't even glance at House, but instead kept a close watch on his surroundings.
This reassured House.
That's true. Garp should have already noticed Miss Slime's presence when he was hit by the arrow.
"Captain, I'm ready."
After whispering something, House tucked Miss Slime back into his chest, laying her flat like armor, and then went to Garp's side.
The two walked together through the Hall of Bones and headed towards the nursery in the corner. House used his longsword to pierce through the goblin cubs that were still eating their mothers, killing them completely.
After killing the goblin cubs, Captain Garp approached and inspected the surroundings.
After confirming that there were no living creatures and no survivors to rescue, Captain Karp handed the torch to House, who then gathered piles of straw from the nursery and placed them under the granary, storage room, rest area, and skeleton artifacts.
"House, you do it."
Karp handed a small bundle of straw to House, and took the torch for himself.
"Um."
House did not refuse.
Light the straw and throw it into the haystack; the flames begin to burn slowly.
After quickly setting everything ablaze, House returned to the tunnel entrance and fled with Karp.
Upon exiting the cave, the three members of the team were already waiting at the entrance.
"it's over."
Karp patted House on the shoulder, his eyes filled with reassuring composure and a hint of appreciation.
However, upon noticing Jack, who was being supported by Russell and had a beaming smile on his face, a hint of regret flashed across Garp's eyes.
"Let's go."
The team returned to the temporary camp. Karp replaced Russell and helped Jack up, while Zem took the responsibility of carrying the three of their luggage.
As for House, he returned the same way he came, except he had two more things on him.
One was a newly contracted slime girl pinned to her chest, and the other was a trophy bag containing goblin ears.
Shortly after they left, the ground behind the goblin's lair collapsed with a deafening roar, and black smoke billowed all around.
Not long after, a group of green slimes appeared nearby, hopping and skipping, and swallowed all the goblin corpses on the ground.
......
The five of them turned back to Wind Chime Town.
Because Jack and Russell were injured and urgently needed further treatment, the journey that would normally take a day to walk was compressed into half a day.
As evening fell, the silver moon hung high in the sky, and the five of them finally emerged from the Misty Forest and arrived at the wasteland that separated the town from the forest.
The wasteland is dotted with man-made paths.
Looking around, Karp noticed a carriage heading towards town not far away.
He shouted loudly and waved to stop the carriage.
Afterwards, everyone rode back to the town in the traveling merchant's carriage.
Zem took Jack and Russell to the church for treatment, while Captain Karp and House took the spoils to the Adventurers' Guild to settle accounts.
Even at night, the doors of the Adventurers' Guild remain open, with many adventurers sitting at tables of all sizes in the hall, drinking beer and boasting to other adventurers about their day's adventures.
They also shared their findings.
The wooden floorboards creaked softly underfoot, occasionally punctuated by the clinking of wine glasses, the crackling of firewood, and the low murmurs of adventurers conversing.
The familiar surroundings allowed House to completely relax.
Upon entering, Garp was greeted by many adventurers.
He's very popular here; even the Adventurers' Guild is willing to vouch for him and recommend him to the newcomer, House.
"Uncle Garp, you really took this kid on an adventure!"
On their way to the front desk, a middle-aged adventurer with stubble suddenly raised a wooden wine glass and shouted at Garp.
Another somewhat tipsy dwarf adventurer suddenly leaped from his chair onto the table, pointed a finger at House, then gulped down a large mouthful of beer before bursting into laughter:
"Kid, how was your first adventure? Were you scared? Hahaha!"
As soon as he finished speaking, several other adventurers shouted in unison:
"Do you still want to take that risk? Can you stand the stench and horror?!"
"You weren't so scared your legs went weak and you hid behind Grandpa Garp, were you?"
These people who were teasing House were the adventurers House had previously approached in the Adventurers' Guild, hoping to join their team and complete their first adventure.
Of course, they all rejected House.
The reason is simple: adventure is not child's play. An ordinary person who has not even mastered the skills is not even qualified to become an adventurer.
Not to mention that House's original identity was just an ordinary farmer in the town. He had neither high martial arts skills nor had he ever come into direct contact with monsters, so he was unaware of the dangers of dealing with them.
They would never agree to let such a newcomer join them.
Otherwise, when facing monsters later, you'll have to be distracted by protecting them.
House remained unmoved by their words. He knew they meant no harm; they just wanted to persuade him to give up his dangerous and adventurous life.
Meanwhile, Karp smiled and put his hand on House's shoulder, then looked around at the smiling guys.
"..."
The laughter and noise gradually subsided as Garp scanned the area.
As the noise gradually subsided, Karp turned to look at House, who stood calmly to the side, then suddenly raised his other arm high and shouted to the crowd:
"The House brothers not only managed to fight six goblins on their own during their first adventure, but they also later saved Russell and Jack's lives."
Without him, I'm afraid even I would never be able to return here.
Let's raise a glass to the brave House!
The guild hall was silent for a few seconds.
The drunken dwarf adventurer stood on the table, stunned, when suddenly he exclaimed "Wow!" and tilted his head back to pour all the wine in his glass onto his face.
"Cough, House!"
Then, a burst of enthusiastic shouts erupted throughout the hall!
Everyone raised their glasses together.
"House!"
"House!"
"House!"
