Chapter 465 The Retaliation of the Surnames
Chapter 465 The Retaliation of the Surnames
Tie Wan, accompanied by two of his men, headed south along the mountain path, preparing to enter their next target village.
It was very quiet along the way.
It was so quiet, not even the chirping of insects.
Tie Wan frowned and stopped walking.
"Something's not right." His years of ninja intuition told him that something was amiss.
He glanced back at his two subordinates. The young ninja's face was still full of excitement, and he was still fiddling with a gold ring he had stolen from the previous village.
"Captain, what's wrong?"
Tiewan didn't speak; he pricked up his ears and listened carefully to the sounds around him.
The sound of the wind, the rustling of leaves, and the beating of a heart.
And then... a buzzing sound.
A buzzing sound came from afar.
At first, it was very soft, almost inaudible. But in just a few seconds, the sound grew louder, as if thousands of insects were flapping their wings at the same time.
Tie Wan raised his head, his pupils suddenly contracting. A dark cloud was surging towards them from the horizon.
That's not a cloud.
Those are insects.
Countless insects swarmed in from all directions, densely packed and overwhelming.
The variety of insects was overwhelming. There were black beetles the size of a thumb, their wings shimmering with a metallic sheen in the moonlight.
There were centipedes as long as a finger, their slender bodies writhing in the night sky. There were also insects whose names I didn't know, their bodies emitting a green glow, like will-o'-the-wisps floating in the air.
Tie Wan's face turned pale instantly.
"run!"
Without hesitation, he turned and ran.
Behind him, his two subordinates reacted a beat slower than he did.
That half-beat was all it took to kill him.
The young ninja had only taken two steps when a swarm of black insects pounced on him. Before he could even scream, he was engulfed by the insects.
Thousands upon thousands of insects simultaneously gnawed at his body, tearing his flesh apart in seconds to expose his bare bones. The insects then burrowed into his bones, feeding on his marrow.
In less than ten seconds, only a pool of dark red blood and a few broken bones remained on the spot.
The other ninja was similar.
He tried to clear a path with fire magic, and the flames he spewed did kill some of the insects, but more insects crawled in through the gaps in the flames and bit his arms, thighs, and neck.
His screams echoed through the night for three or four seconds before abruptly ceasing.
Iron Ball didn't dare look back, running forward for his life. He was indeed fast, after all, he was a Chunin, and his taijutsu foundation was still intact. But the insect was even faster.
The insect cloud surged in from behind like ocean waves, one wave higher and faster than the next.
Tie Wan pulled a smoke bomb from his pocket and threw it behind him. The smoke spread out, temporarily obscuring the insect swarm's vision.
But this only bought him a few seconds. He rolled down the hillside and fell into a dry ditch. Ignoring his scrapes, he scrambled to the end of the ditch on all fours.
In the distance, more insect clouds are rising. To the east, west, south, and north, the horizon is filled with dark, dense insect clouds.
He then realized that it wasn't that he wasn't running fast enough, but that they had been surrounded from the very beginning.
The seemingly unsuspecting civilians in the village transformed overnight into the most terrifying hunters.
The enraged villagers controlled countless insects, which surged out of the village, the forest, and underground, surrounding and annihilating hundreds of squads of the Ninja Alliance.
Iron Ball hid in the ditch, panting heavily.
The buzzing of insects filled my ears, mixed with screams coming from afar.
One, two, three... each scream signifies the annihilation of a squad.
He huddled in the shadows of the ditch, shivering like a mouse cornered by a cat.
He heard a rustling sound behind him. He turned around abruptly and saw a boy of about ten years old huddled among the rocks on the other side of the ditch, trembling all over.
The boy wore simple armor, held a kunai in his hand, and his face was ashen. Judging from his equipment, he was likely a wandering ninja recruited by the Ninja Alliance.
He didn't make a move. Not because he didn't want to, but because he never dared to make a move from beginning to end.
He entered the border with Iron Ball's squad, but his mission was to gather intelligence, not to participate in the battle directly.
He hid in a large tree and witnessed the entire massacre when his teammates stormed into the village and began the slaughter.
He saw villagers being stabbed to death, heard women screaming as they died, and smelled the increasingly strong stench of blood in the air.
His hands were shaking.
He felt nauseous.
He is only twelve years old and was picked up from the streets by the recruiters. They told him that as long as he joined the Ninja Alliance, he could have enough to eat and learn ninjutsu.
No one told him that war involves killing. No one told him that the people killed were unarmed civilians.
As the distant swarm of insects began to rise, he made the wisest decision of his life: instead of continuing forward with his teammates, he stayed put.
His teammates thought he was a coward, scolded him a couple of times, and then left without looking back.
Now, those three teammates are dead.
Just then, another boy walked up to him. The moment their eyes met, they both saw the same thing in each other's eyes. Luckily, they didn't make a move.
If their hands were stained with the blood of the people, the swarm would not have spared them. But for now, they are clean.
The swarm of insects swept across the ditch without stopping.
Beyond the ditch, the buzzing of the insect cloud grew fainter and fainter.
But more insect clouds are already on their way.
Upon reaching the border, many civilians sat atop their giant insects, watching the ninjas being chased like dogs in the distance. The last vestiges of fear in their hearts vanished.
Is this what a ninja is?
These were the ninjas who once filled them with fear, made them kneel and beg for mercy, and respectfully addressed them as "Ninja Master."
So they are human too. So they can die from insect attacks. So they are not as strong as they thought!
They used to be subservient and meek in front of ninjas, but now they finally have the power to fight back.
That's right. Although they are not strong individually, there are many of them and they control a lot of insects. When they come together, they are a considerable force.
"Revenge, bloody revenge!" a burly man standing atop the giant mantis shouted.
The surrounding people, regardless of age or gender, were all excited. They touched the insects beside them and felt the power of control; they were no longer weak.
Overnight, hundreds of squads, totaling 2000 ninjas, were almost completely wiped out.
They were torn to shreds, their bodies gnawed to pieces, leaving nothing behind. Only a very small number of elite Jonin skilled in escape managed to escape.
