078. Confrontation
078. Confrontation
"Gentlemen," Xin Lai put down her teacup, her voice not loud, but carrying an undeniable air of authority, "have you had enough?"
The two of them were startled at the same time, as if they had just realized that there was a third person in the room.
A deep sense of shame appeared on Kobok's face. His disgraceful behavior and his wife's accusations had all been seen and heard by the young prince.
This shame was even more unbearable for him than being cuckolded.
A hint of panic flashed across the woman's face.
She acted impulsively and said so many things she shouldn't have, completely forgetting that Xin Lai, an outsider, was in the room.
Those private matters concerning Kobok's impotence were thus exposed without any cover to a young man...
"Your Highness the Third Prince..." Kobok's voice was so hoarse it was almost inaudible.
Xinlai waved her hand, stood up, walked to the woman, and looked down at her.
"Madam," his voice was calm and composed, "I will pretend I didn't hear what you just said. But there is something I would like to remind you of."
The woman looked up, her swollen face streaked with tears, and her eyes filled with fear.
"How much do you know about Dali," Sinley said slowly and deliberately.
The woman was taken aback; her lips moved, but she didn't say anything.
"He is the eldest son of the Maveril family, an idle and good-for-nothing who lives off his father's legacy in the city of Guna."
Xinlai's tone was casual. "He's been hooking up with at least eight or ten women outside. Do you think he's clean?"
The woman's expression changed.
"He..." she began, opening her mouth, "He said..."
"What did he say?" Xin Lai raised an eyebrow slightly. "He said he loved you? He said he wanted to marry you? He said he was willing to give up everything for you?"
The woman didn't answer, but her flickering eyes said it all.
Xinlai shook her head gently and let out a sigh that was hard to decipher.
"Madam, you are a smart woman, how could you be so confused about something like this?"
He said, "Dali only approaches you because you are the mistress of the Fesari family, rich, powerful, and of high status. Once he's swindled all your money and had his fill of your body, do you think he'll still give you a second glance?"
The woman's lips trembled violently, and the light in her eyes gradually dimmed.
"No...no way..." she murmured, but her voice couldn't even convince herself.
"No?" Xinlai chuckled softly.
"Then why don't you think about it? There are so many women at the banquet prettier than you, why does Dali only seek you out instead?"
The woman's face turned completely pale.
Because she knew the answer.
Dali will definitely run, and he'll run faster than anyone else.
"Enough," Kobok suddenly spoke, his voice hoarse yet ruthless, "Your Highness, there's no need to say any more."
He leaned on the edge of the table and slowly straightened up. The expression on his old face had completely changed; it was no longer anger and shame, but a cold, almost cruel resolve.
"Someone come here!"
The guard pushed the door open and entered again.
"Go," Kobock said, emphasizing each word, "bring Dali Dali to me."
The guards obeyed and left.
Silence fell in the room once again.
The woman slumped to the ground, staring blankly at the ground, as if all her energy had been drained away.
Kobok stood there leaning on his cane, his chest still rising and falling slightly, but his furious aura had gradually subsided, replaced by an extremely gloomy calm.
Xinlai sat back down in her chair, picked up her teacup, and found that the tea had gone completely cold, so she put it down again.
"Your Excellency Kobock," he said calmly, "some things are best handled calmly."
Kobok nodded without saying anything.
He understood what Sinley meant; although Dali was just a good-for-nothing, he was still named Maverick.
With the Tanstin family having just changed hands, the Fesalie clan needed to consolidate their power, and it might not be wise to rashly turn against the Dali clan.
but……
Kobok glanced down at the two crescent-shaped pendants on the ground, his eyes growing even colder.
Some things cannot be resolved simply by being "rational".
After about the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, a series of noisy footsteps and hushed voices came from outside the door.
Immediately afterwards, the door was pushed open, and two burly bodyguards escorted Dali in.
As he was escorted in by his bodyguards, his eyes quickly scanned the room.
His pupils contracted sharply when he saw the matriarch of the Fesari clan slumped on the ground.
When I saw Kobok's extremely gloomy old face, I started to tremble slowly.
"Lord Ko...Kobok..." Dali's voice trembled, "You...you wanted to see me..."
"Kneel down." Kobok's voice wasn't loud, but it was as cold as ice shards in the dead of winter.
Dali's knees buckled, and he fell to his knees with a thud. His kneecaps hit the hard floor tiles, causing him to grimace in pain, but he didn't dare utter a sound.
"Dali," Kobok said, leaning on his cane, walking step by step to him, looking down at him, "Do you know why I've come to you?"
Dali's Adam's apple bobbed, and fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.
"I...I don't know..." His voice was weak, and his gaze involuntarily glanced at the woman before quickly looking away.
"Don't know?" Kobok sneered, using the end of his cane to lift Dali's chin, forcing him to look up. "Then look at her."
The cane pointed at the woman slumped on the ground.
Dali's gaze was forced to fall on the woman, on her swollen cheeks, on the bloodstains at the corner of her mouth, and on the shocking hickeys under her torn silk scarf.
His pupils contracted sharply, and he looked away as if he had been burned.
"I...I have nothing with Madam..." His voice was so soft it was like a mosquito's hum.
"We just... just bumped into each other by chance..."
"A chance encounter?" Kobock's voice suddenly rose, slamming his cane down on Dali's shoulder. "A chance encounter with something of yours around her neck?! Do you think I'm a three-year-old?!"
Dali was hit by the cane and his whole body swayed to the side, his shoulder almost numb with pain.
He clutched his shoulder, his face filled with terror: "Lord Kobok, I really... I really didn't..."
"No?" Kobok crouched down, grabbed Dali by the collar, and pulled him in front of him, his two cloudy, bloodshot eyes fixed on him.
"Then let me ask you, what's in the image-remembering magic?"
Dali's face turned deathly pale instantly. He opened his mouth, but couldn't utter a single word.
All excuses pale in comparison to irrefutable evidence.
"Not going to speak?" Kobok looked at him coldly. "Silence means consent."
As he spoke, he turned around, walked to the table, picked up the two pendants, weighed them in his hand, and then suddenly turned around and slammed the pendants in front of Dali.
"Do you even know who this woman is?" Kobock's voice was as cold as ice.
"She is the mistress of the Fesalie clan and my wife, Kobok. If you harm her, you are disrespecting the Fesalie clan."
Dali was trembling all over, his lips quivering, and finally managed to squeeze out a sentence:
"Lord Kobok... I was wrong... I was really wrong!"
"Please forgive me this time, I promise I'll never do it again..."
