Chapter 34 A Woman's Heart is Like Water
Chapter 34 A Woman's Heart is Like Water
"I'm a little confused."
Li Zhi looked into her eyes, so close to his own: "I've clearly told you what you want most, so why do you want to kill me even more?"
Li Zhi froze halfway through his sentence.
Could that be the reason?
Qu Hongxiao laughed so hard her shoulders trembled slightly. She practically pressed herself against Li Zhi, nuzzling him, her voice sweet and alluring.
"It seems you still don't understand women's hearts, young master."
"Isn't it precisely because I understand your heart too well that I'm being killed by you?"
Qu Hongxiao composed herself, reached out and gently stroked Li Zhi's earlobe, her fingertips slightly cool, her voice extremely low:
"Young master, how did you figure that out? I want to kill you."
"Won't I die after I say that?"
"Not necessarily. Maybe if you say it, you won't have to die."
The implication was that if they didn't speak now, they would die.
Li Zhi laughed at such a threat: "Because you're so close, if I really lean down to kiss you, you'll kill me immediately."
"Oh?" Qu Hongxiao's eyes flickered. "I invited you with a smile just now, where was the murderous intent?"
"You're not that kind of woman. You're the kind of woman who treats men like they don't exist. Why would you suddenly ask for a kiss? So, you were just looking for a reason, a plausible reason to kill me."
"Sigh." Qu Hongxiao sighed softly, took a half step back, and left Li Zhi's embrace: "It seems that you are indeed no ordinary person, young master, you see through me so clearly."
The beauty departed, and the red silk fluttered in the air, as if the light red silk in the room would transform into a silent weapon of death in the next moment.
Sensing the murderous aura in the room, Li Zhi sighed, "A woman's heart is like water, meandering and flowing."
Qu Hongxiao did sing it, her voice was sweet and beautiful, it was very pleasant to listen to.
"Young master, that's a good word. Is there more?"
"I can't remember," Li Zhi shrugged. "I've only vaguely heard those two sentences."
"What a pity." Qu Hongxiao's tone revealed a hint of regret. "If you could finish the whole thing, I might appreciate your talent and let you off the hook."
"I don't believe you anymore. If you continue, I think you'll want to kill me even more."
After a moment's thought, Qu Hongxiao agreed with what she said, and continued, "Then, young master, can you think of any other ways to save yourself?"
"I'm thinking about it."
"Then tell me, young master," Qu Hongxiao moved closer, her breath brushing against his neck, "why do you think I would kill you because I've been seen through?"
"You're too insecure," Li Zhi said frankly. "Once someone sees through your thoughts, you want to eliminate them to prevent future troubles."
He paused, then gave a wry smile:
"I shouldn't have only talked about money just now—I guess if I had only mentioned money, you might have really let me go. It turns out that thinking too much and talking too much can be deadly."
"Why do you say that, sir?"
"Because you're greedy for more than just money," Li Zhi said, looking at her. "You're also greedy for fame."
"Oh? Why?"
"Isn't Xie Shiyi a perfect example?" Li Zhidao said. "I thought you were after his money, but when he staked the reputation of the Xie family in Sichuan, you finally let him go—you wanted to use his name to spread your virtue and let outsiders say that the master Qu of Hongxiaolou values righteousness over profit."
Qu Hongxiao paused for a moment, then gently clapped her hands:
"Young master is right."
"I should have thought about this more slowly," Li Zhi sighed. "If I were a little less perceptive, you might have let me off the hook."
"Yes," Qu Hongxiao traced her fingertips across his chin, her voice soft like a sigh, "It's all because you're too clever, young master. Now, I really want to kill you more and more."
The beauty's breath was as fragrant as orchids, yet it sent chills down one's spine.
"Then why haven't you made a move yet?"
"Because..." Qu Hongxiao's eyes suddenly became somewhat unfocused, "I seem to be a little reluctant to part with it. Young Master, why is that?"
"Because you're afraid the world will lose someone who understands you." Li Zhi looked directly at her. "Also, I'm quite weak, and you still want to control me."
"You seem to be right again." Qu Hongxiao lowered her eyelids: "Young master, is there anything else to say?"
"Yes, I've thought of a way that will satisfy both of us."
Li Zhi revealed a confident smile: "Let me go, and let me go and cause trouble for Ji Baizhi, okay?"
"What do you mean?"
"Don't you want to see that phoenix fall to earth and live happily ever after with a mortal man?"
Li Zhi's voice was seductive: "Anyway, in your opinion, no man is any good. How about letting her suffer the torment of love, enduring it day and night?"
"Young master, you are truly confident." Qu Hongxiao retreated again, and Hongxiao left as well, as if the danger had passed.
Li Zhi remained motionless, still standing in place, maintaining a confident smile: "If I can understand you, Miss Qu, then I can certainly understand Ji Baizhi. Do you think Ji Baizhi is more difficult to understand than you, Miss Qu?"
"Young master, you've said those things again, things that would make me want to kill you."
Qu Hongxiao smiled sweetly, but there was no murderous intent in her eyes.
"Girl, don't scare me." Li Zhi shook his head. "Is there anything else you need to tell me?"
"It's nothing," Qu Hongxiao said, then suddenly remembered something: "Young Master, you seem a little greedy."
"Where did I go wrong being greedy?"
"Proceed according to your plan, young master. Once Ji Baizhi falls in love with you, you can use this to seduce me."
A hint of malice flashed in Qu Hongxiao's eyes: "In that case, wouldn't we be back to the original method you used, young master? You're truly blessed with the fortune of having two wives."
"What you're saying makes sense," Li Zhi said, lowering his head in thought. "So, what method have you come up with this time?"
"It's a very simple method," Qu Hongxiao said cheerfully. "Young Master, you just need to change the order."
Should we change the order?
Li Zhi was taken aback for a moment, but quickly understood Qu Hongxiao's meaning, and said with some helplessness, "You really are greedy."
"I knew you would understand, young master." Qu Hongxiao was even more satisfied. Having someone who understood her heart seemed pretty good.
"Then I'll head back." Li Zhi straightened his clothes. "I'll be back in seven days."
"Please wait, young master."
The music and singing downstairs hadn't stopped, and Xie Shiyi was craning his neck to look around. When he saw him coming down, he hurriedly went to greet him:
"Bro! What does Master Qu actually look like?"
"An indescribable beauty."
Feeling the malicious gazes behind him, Li Zhi could only say something against his will, then patted him on the shoulder: "Let's go."
The two walked through the still bustling lobby and out of the Red Silk Building.
A night breeze swept over me, dispelling the warm, fragrant scent that lingered on my body.
Xie Shiyi secretly observed Li Zhi's expression and asked in a low voice:
"Bro, is Qu Dajia really that good-looking?"
Li Zhi paused, turning back to glance at the Red Silk Pavilion:
"Her red dress was breathtaking, her music captivating. Her heart was deep and her mind as still as a stream."
A red figure stood silently by the window on the third floor.
Qu Hongxiao watched the two departing figures, then withdrew her consciousness, her fingertips unconsciously stroking the window frame.
"It seems they still know how to say some nice things."
A night breeze blew by, ruffling the stray strands of hair that fell across her cheek.
Qu Hongxiao reached out and gathered her hands together, then turned and left the window.
A red sleeve brushed past, and the candlelight flickered gently.
The boudoir was once again filled with silence.
Leave the red silk and go to gaze at the stars.
