Chapter 119: A Moment...
Chapter 119: A Moment...
Jason had managed to fight off the strongest zombie he had fought since this apocalypse started and the fact that it had the fragment he searched for so it was worth it but now, what was next? That was up to Chronos to decide.
Jason looked at the fragment in his hand, it was purple but covered in rotten zombie guts so Jason couldn’t see it properly.
That’s when Jason realized that things were soon going to take a turn for the worse.
The zombies were active and he could hear the familiar sound of growling outside.
"Don’t tell me the zombies are active?" Jason thought to himself.
He knew that Chronos couldn’t take an active role in this except to advise him but it didn’t matter, he was going to get out of this alive.
[The horde is active.]
Chronos responded and Jason gritted his teeth in frustration, this was more work.
Jason had to check his gun to see how much ammunition was there.
"Damn it! How did I get myself into this situation?" Jason muttered to himself.
He had to take the path to the top, he exited the sewer without making a sound.
He was ready to fight if it came to be but that wouldn’t be the ideal situation for him.
A zombie was heading right at him and Jason gripped his gun firmly but something he couldn’t have predicted happened.
"What the fuck is going on?" Jason thought to himself.
[Apparently, you smell worse than decaying flesh. As of this moment, you smell worse than the zombies.]
Jason wanted to chuckle but this might give him away, what he hated happened turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
This was how Jason survived the horde that spelt certain death.
It took a couple of minutes but Jason returned to the community with the bag that he had buried.
At the entrance of the gate, he met Debra who looked genuinely surprised to see him.
It was almost like she expected him to fail, he didn’t know what was going to happen but he expected Debra to make sure none of this gets back to them.
"I’m back!" Jason exclaimed and Debra gestured for the gate to be opened, Jason was glad that he had accomplished this because he knew he needed friends within these walls.
Or he risked losing it all but he wasn’t ready for that possibility.
"You did it?" Debra asked and Jason nodded with a smile.
"Why the hell do you smell so bad!? Did a dozen people shit on you?" Debra asked as she quickly covered her nose to stop her from inhaling more than she needed to.
"Yeah, that is a long story," Jason said with a grin, dropping the bag right in front of her.
"Here’s your bag," Jason said with a triumphant look and the man that Debra had broken into his house with also looked surprised that he had retrieved the bag.
"How did you do this?" He asked, desperately trying to figure out how he did it.
The truth is, they had sent others to get it but none ever came back.
These were the bodies that Jason had fought off there, they were the only two not to have been drawn in by the nest but this meant that Debra was indirectly responsible for the nest that had formed close by.
"What’s in the bag anyway?" Jason asked, trying his best to see things the way they were.
"You fucking did it!" Debra exclaimed, throwing her arms around Jason to show her gratitude.
Jason was confused, he didn’t know what could be so important.
Jason had to practically push her off him and he watched the other man open the bag.
"Those are..." Jason thought and Debra nodded.
"These are meds! You’re the first one to complete this task!" Debra was over the moon.
Jason realized that she had healed him or rather, given him meds in exchange for getting more meds, he couldn’t help but feel played but he was glad to be back.
Debra didn’t even care that he smelled like shit when she embraced him but she instantly regretted it.
"You should probably go shower," Debra said.
"You should too, I’m told I’m quite contagious," Jason retorted cleverly.
-
Rachel was in his house and she inspected the house after Debra had left.
It was a letter that was written if Jason didn’t return.
What they said didn’t match what was written in the letter,
"What is this?" Rachel was puzzled by why they would break in to drop this letter.
It was a letter that "Jason" wanted to be delivered in the case of his death.
Debra knew his house would be searched the moment he went missing and this letter would put her in the clear, removing her involvement in all of this.
It not only stated that Jason acted with the aid of those he brought with him within the walls.
This meant that they wouldn’t be able to stay if Jason had failed the task given to him by Debra,
Debra couldn’t have questions flying around so the best way to solve this was to kick them all to the curb.
Rachel didn’t know what to make of this letter but something told her that Jason needed to see it. Rachel didn’t know the sort of mess he had gotten himself into but she knew he had a lot of explaining to do.
It took a whole ten minutes for Jason to return and Rachel was waiting for him, she didn’t mind that he was a little long but the stench that came with him stepping foot in that door nearly made her collapse.
Rachel had to distance herself from Jason immediately or she would be overwhelmed by it even though it was slowly spreading in the house.
"GO TAKE A SHOWER!" Rachel screamed and Jason snickered, he didn’t expect this reaction but it was because of this stench that he was alive.
"Rachel, I could use a hand in there if you’re down for it," Jason suggested.
This was the first time he was being direct with her.
Rachel didn’t know if he was serious or if he was messing with her as usual.
"Get your ass in the shower! You fucking stink!" Rachel cussed and Jason smiled.
Rachel noticed he had a limp in his steps and he looked exhausted, whatever it was he had just gone through must have been taxing both mentally and physically.
Jason rushed to the bathroom, he was glad that he did this because he had seen first-hand what the fragment was capable of and Chronos had every reason to be worried.
Jason switched on the water and couldn’t believe that they even had access to hot water.
The water didn’t touch his skin and Jason took a deep breath as he just allowed the steam of the water to exfoliate his exhausted skin with a towel wrapped tightly around his waist.
The heat opened up his pores, it felt like he was getting some sort of deep cleanse.
Jason was taking deep breaths, his body was tensed up and he didn’t know when it happened but his knees nearly buckled.
He felt something warm and loving around his chest, his back pressing against something soft.
It was no doubt Rachel, she had prevented him from falling.
"Geez, you can’t even stand on your own without me," Rachel whispered and Jason snickered weakly, there was no doubt that Rachel was still clothed.
The fabric sticking to him alerted him of this possibility but Jason didn’t even mind.
He needed to rest but she was not wearing a bra as usual.
"Ha! I guess you could be my crutches for now," Jason responded but his voice was tired.
His earlier enthusiasm was nowhere to be found.
"I don’t know what battles you’re facing Jason but I want you to know that you aren’t alone," Rachel reassured him and Jason didn’t know how much he needed to hear this.
"Thank you Rachel," Jason showed his gratitude.
Rachel gently guided him to sit and Jason did just that.
She knew he needed to rest and she had so many questions to ask but his mental health was her priority right now.
"Do you still need my help?" Rachel asked and Jason nodded.
He felt the soft hands of Rachel scrubbing his back, the soap she used was more than adequate as she scrubbed up and down.
Jason closed his eyes, he didn’t know how this happened but Rachel was washing his back.
"Where did you go?" Rachel asked, wanting to know what was going on.
"I will tell you all about it, right now I want silence..." Jason said and Rachel bit her tongue immediately.
"I want to enjoy this silence... with you," Jason said, Rachel kept scrubbing his back but there was something evident in the air that both parties felt and that was sexual tension.
