Chapter 260: Wu Chaochang’s Past!
Chapter 260: Wu Chaochang’s Past!
Yang Qingxi’s lips twitched.
"Don’t ruin someone else’s life for your entertainment."
Su Mo immediately defended himself.
"I’m not ruining anything."
"He jumped in himself."
"From the information I gathered, Wu Lao seems very enthusiastic about entering this beautiful trap called Ye Chen."
"..."
Yang Qingxi couldn’t refute that.
After all, from what they had learned so far, Wu Lao really was charging forward with remarkable determination.
Shaking her head, Yang Qingxi decided to end the topic before Su Mo came up with even stranger ideas.
"Forget about Ye Chen for now."
Her expression became serious.
"Did you find anything about Wu Chaochang’s past?"
"Uh huh." Su Mo nodded. "It was quite a coincidence. One of the Winter Crane Flies happened to run into some inner disciples who were responsible for a part of Wu Chaochang’s miserable past inside the sect. I used Illusion to get the information."
Yang Qingxi immediately became interested.
"Then tell me."
Su Mo leaned back slightly and organised the information.
"The story isn’t particularly complicated."
Then he began recounting what he had learned.
Years ago, when Wu Chaochang was still an infant, he was adopted by an elder of White Moon Sect.
The elder never married and had no descendants of his own. Upon seeing the abandoned child, he brought him back to the sect and raised him himself.
Wu Chaochang did not disappoint him.
From a young age, he displayed a talent that surpassed many of his peers. Whether it was martial arts or cultivation basics, he learned quickly.
For a time, he was considered one of the most promising disciples of his generation. Many elders praised him, and the disciples admired him.
The sect even intended to focus resources on nurturing him as the core disciple.
"Sounds pretty standard so far." Yang Qingxi commented.
"That’s because the downfall comes next." Su Mo continued.
When Wu Chaochang reached fifteen years old, the results of his cultivation aptitude examination came out.
The conclusion was devastating.
He was unsuitable for the path of cultivation. The news struck him like lightning.
For someone who had spent years being praised as a genius, it was difficult to accept.
The higher one stood, the harder the fall.
A former genius immediately became a joke. The same people who had praised him began to avoid him. The same disciples who once admired him started mocking him.
Some of them had been defeated by Wu Chaochang in the past. Now that he had fallen, they naturally seized the opportunity to settle old grievances.
Verbal ridicule became common. Occasional beatings became common.
No one killed him. No one crippled him.
But their verbal attacks and beatings continuously reminded him of his failure. Day after day. Year after year.
Yang Qingxi listened quietly. She wasn’t surprised. This kind of thing happened often in cultivation stories.
People always loved geniuses. But they loved watching fallen geniuses even more.
"The sect wanted to expel him?" she asked.
"Eventually." Su Mo nodded.
"The sect leaders believed it was pointless for him to remain here. They wanted him to return to the secular world and live an ordinary life."
"However, the elder who adopted him protected him. He argued on Wu Chaochang’s behalf and convinced them to let him stay."
For several more years, Wu Chaochang remained in White Moon Sect. But, he refused to give up.
He searched for alternative cultivation methods. Studied old records. Tried different techniques.
Unfortunately, nothing worked. Every effort ended in failure.
Then, when he turned twenty, the elder who had raised him passed away. The old injuries accumulated during the elder’s younger days finally claimed his life.
Wu Chaochang lost the only person still willing to stand beside him. Just a few days later, he was expelled from White Moon Sect.
The room became quiet.
Yang Qingxi wasn’t particularly moved by the story. If anything, she felt it was very strangely familiar. Almost every revenge-type protagonist seemed to start with some variation of this plot.
"That’s all?" She asked.
"Of course not." Su Mo shook his head. "If that’s all, it wouldn’t explain why he became an enemy of White Moon Sect."
Yang Qingxi looked at him curiously.
Su Mo continued. "Do you remember the smelly courtyard we saw earlier?"
"The one filled with garbage?" Yang Qingxi nodded. When Zhi Mo brought them here, they did pass by that place. It was indeed very smelly and disgusting. She was still confused as to why the sect had made a courtyard into a dump. Don’t they care about hygiene? Now it seems there’s a reason.
"That courtyard belonged to the elder who adopted Wu Chaochang."
"The disciples throw garbage there."
"The blood stains are from disciples using it as a place to punish servants and troublesome outer disciples."
Yang Qingxi frowned. "Such actions seem excessive."
"Exactly." Su Mo spread his hands.
"No matter how much they hated Wu Chaochang, there was no reason to treat the former elder’s residence like that."
"So why?" She asked.
"It’s because Wu Chaochang later killed the Sect Master’s younger son."
Yang Qingxi’s eyes widened slightly. "No wonder."
Now the hostility made sense.
The matter had escalated far beyond the conflict of a failed disciple.
A son of the Sect Leader. Someone so important to the sect.
If Wu Chaochang really killed him, then the hatred between both sides was understandable.
"Let me guess." Yang Qingxi crossed her arms.
"After being expelled, Wu Chaochang found the Evil Divination Mirror."
"Must be." Su Mo nodded. "According to a normal plot. When he was at his lowest point. Filled with anger and unwillingness."
"He finds a treasure that could change his fate. Seems like a very standard revenge story."
Yang Qingxi couldn’t help agreeing. It really was clinched.
So much so that she could almost predict the next several stages of his life.
To become stronger. Return to this place. Take revenge. Slap everyone’s faces. The usual sequence.
"Who exactly was the elder who adopted him? Was he strong?" she asked.
